PRELIMINARY: This course will focus on general concepts and device development in the rapidly evolving field of nanoscale optics and photonics. Topics that will be covered include; nanoscale optical microscopy, near-field optics, optical antennas, optical interaction in nanoscale environments, quantum emitters, photonic crystals, optical micro/nano cavities, surface plasmonics, slow and trapped light. Fabrication and properties of nanophotonic devices using e.g. quantum dots, nanowires and carbon nanotubes. Nanophotonic devices to be discussed include: lasers, single-photon sources, detectors, waveguides, memories, displays, solar cells and sensors.
